Ford India may recall 40,000 units of Figo and Aspire; suspends deliveries of both cars

Ford India has suspended the sales and test drives of the Figo and Aspire due to an issue with the 'restraint control module' that may affect the functioning of the airbag. While the halt on the sales of these two cars will continue till the company fixes the issue, the company is also planning to recall a total of 40,000 units of both the cars that it has already sold.

The recalled cars too will be checked for the issue and will be delivered to customers as soon as it is fixed. The company will inform its customers individually and the software related issue will be sorted free of cost.

The entire inspection process and up-gradation will be done in a few hours time. The vehicle's sales is expected to resume by the end of this week or the next week, as the company is expecting to get done with the inspection of all the cars, sold and unsold, within this week itself.

Since both vehicles get the driver-side airbag as standard, the recall will include all the units that the company has sold of the new-generation Ford Figo and Figo Aspire. Both the cars are offered with a 1.5-litre diesel engine and a 1.2-litre petrol mill. While the former is good for 99bhp and 215Nm, the latter develops 87bhp and 112Nm.
