Words of expectations about 'Lex - Ultima '16'

As the most expected National level law fest is approaching, here is an article which has been written down by the students of SDM, to briefly describe the fest.

About the College

The well known institution of Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Law College (SDMLC) is recognized as one of the top law colleges in Karnataka. The college imparts quality legal education through both, the 5 year and 3 year LLB programmes as well as the Postgraduate courses (LLM) . The college also offers certificate, diploma and add-on courses in a wide array of subjects. SDMLC, was accredited with ‘A’ grade by NAAC in the year 2012 and hence takes pride in being the only private law college in the State of Karnataka to have been accredited so. Apart from providing theoretical knowledge, this premier institution also gives practical training to its students in the form of various moot court activities. For this purpose, the Moot Court Society was established in the college. The Society has carved out an enviable niche for itself in the legal fraternity by organizing creative National Level Moot Court competitions such as National Dual Advocacy, National Triple Advocacy, Dominus Litis and Victoria Iuris for the years 2013, 2014 and 2015. The Society has successfully hosted an international level client counselling competition called Louis Brown International Client Counseling Competition in its pursuit of innovation and creativity.

This year, we present to you, “LEX ULTIMA ’16”, an innovative National Level Law Fest spread across four days which will witness intense competition between the best law colleges in India. The fest aims at testing the mettle and legal acumen of the students thereby, recognizing the best legal talents of our country.

Highlights of Lex Ultima ’16

The law fest will involve the participation of about 100 students from the top 19 law colleges of the country. The fest will host 10 extraordinary and challenging competitions spread across 4 days from 10th to 13th March, 2016. A Starlit entertainment programme will also be organised as a part of the law fest which will attract movie stars from Sandalwood.

A word from the students

As the much-awaited law fest draws near, emotions run high among both, the participants and the organisers. For the participants, there is the pressure of facing cut-throat competition and going back home with the most accolades, leaving their mark as the one to “look out for.”  When asked about her expectations from Lex Ultima, Tanvi Khare, a participant from Symbiosis Law School had this to say - “This would be my seventh time, mooting. I’ve participated in other fests before, although none had as many events as this one. I’m especially looking forward to the Bail Petition competition.” For the organisers, it is of course, the challenge of undertaking the herculean task of conducting ten competitions within a matter of four days. Added to this is the pressure of meeting the high expectations of the new participants as well as maintaining the quality of the fest in the eyes of the old ones. Mariya, a final year student of SDMLC was asked to describe her experience as an event manager in the previous fest, Victoria Iuris ’15. She said, “It was a great experience. I was the event manager for Negotiation. It takes a lot of work to make sure that the event runs smoothly. The co-operation from various volunteers is worthy of appreciation. Victoria Iuris ‘15 left us with a lot of memories. Meeting new people from various parts of the country was very exciting!” When questioned about the preparations going on for the upcoming fest, she said, “Behind the scenes, a lot of hard work is being put into the making of Lex Ultima ‘16. Our expectations are very high. A 4 day long fest requires a lot of planning. The events this year are unique and challenging too! I am very excited for the cultural events. Lex Ultima, for sure is going to be a memorable fest!”

Liz, Abhishek and Satvik, being freshers in SDMLC, were all the more excited to witness the events as they have heard a lot about them from their seniors. “We’re extremely excited. There’s been so much talk about the fest for so long, we really look forward to it. We hope that we will get to learn a lot through the fest. Absolutely can’t wait for the rally and the cultural performances!”

Final thoughts

As the stage is being set and the battle ground made ready for the verbal warfare between the budding advocates, SDMLC is keeping its fingers crossed to make Lex Ultima a cherished memory for all.
